20 Worst Movies Of 2022
9. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
After 2018’s Halloween received heavy praise, it was no surprise to see other bygone slashers follow suit, including Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Unfortunately, this sequel/reboot/requel fails miserably to attract modern viewers or hardcore fans of the original. Apart from a few creative kills, there’s little here to recommend for horror purists.
Rather than just focusing on horror, 2022's Texas Chainsaw Massacre fervently attempts to tackle various social issues. However, the film’s manner of discussing gentrification, outdated traditionalism, and Gen-Z liberalism comes across as mean-spirited rather than thought-provoking or relevant. When you see a character livestreaming Leatherface’s murder spree in an attempt to get the cannibalistic serial killer “cancelled”, you wonder if the filmmakers had ever seen a Texas Chainsaw Massacre film before.
Except for the character of Ruth, every characters has the survival skills of a lemming (which is ironic, since Ruth is the first main cast member to get the chop). The characters act so dumb, you couldn't care less when the chainsaw-wielding cannibal puts them out of their misery.
