17. Morbius

Pinocchio Disney
Sony Pictures

Because Morbius became a meme-inducing joke long before it was released, it seemed like Sony’s latest instalment in the non-Spider-Man Cinematic Universe was doomed from the start.

As hard as it is to believe, the first half of Morbius isn’t that bad. It's nothing special, but it’s nowhere near the dumpster fire we were expecting. Jared Leto is surprisingly compelling in the lead role. His relationship with his friend-turned-villain, Milo, (Matt Smith) is intriguing. The methods Michael Morbius uses to test and harness his powers are entertainingly inventive.

Sadly, the second-half is filled with every flaw you’ve come to expect. For the last 45 minutes, you can’t help being overwhelmed by the unconvincing CGI, obvious reshoots, cringey one-liners, and hammy performances. The final battle and sequel tease is so abrupt, it’s like the filmmakers were as eager to see the film’s end as the viewers.

Also, the clunky post-credits scene has to be the most forced sequel bait in the history of cinema.
