Thor is the God of Thunder and has always been a wonderfully bad-ass yet believable and human character. Loki is the MCU's best villain ever and frequently one is nearly tricked into rooting for him. Who'd have thought their dad was some charmless old dude who just stands around with a staff?

Anthony Hopkins is a magnificent actor, but recently he's just been doing silly paycheck roles in blockbusters and Odin epitomizes this. His performance comes down to being moody, saying some vaguely wise things in an all-knowing voice and doing his best Gandalf/Dumbledore impersonation. Worst of all, Odin doesn't show the slightest bit of warmth towards anyone and fails to be anything other than bored or grumpy.

The only time Odin was ever particularly interesting was when Loki was impersonating him and Anthony Hopkins himself has expressed apathy towards the part, making it clear it was just a paycheck role. You know an actor's messed up when they gave a better performance in Transformers 5.
