20 Worst Performances In Superhero Movies

10. Helen Slater (Supergirl) - Supergirl

The first major female-led superhero movie is arguably the reason why movie studios have been so reluctant to greenlight more of them, even more than three decades later.

Supergirl was a colossal critical and commercial failure, with almost every aspect of its production being uniformly criticised, including Helen Slater's cardboard-stiff performance in the title role.

Slater absolutely meets the physical requirements of the role, and that's basically where the good ends.

The studio ditched safer bets like Demi Moore and Brooke Shields, instead opting for an unknown Slater, whose work isn't as over-the-top as Peter O'Toole or Faye Dunaway's absurd, Razzie-nominated performances, but far more boring.

Slater clearly tried to mirror Christopher Reeve's earnest performance as Superman, but ended up making the heroine dull and uninteresting. The worst thing you can say about her work is that it's totally forgettable. Thank God for Melissa Benoist, right?
