20 WTF Moments From Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

12. Julia & Jane Aren't Mentioned At All

It's been said many times that the M:I franchise has something of a woman problem: each movie has appointed a new female protagonist, with the only returning character being Hunt's wife Julia (Michelle Monaghan), who cameoed for about 15 seconds in Ghost Protocol, so it barely counts. Neither Julia nor the previous movie's female lead, Agent Jane Carter (Paula Patton), are even given a single mention in Rogue Nation, which only reinforces the notion that women are essentially on a "revolving door" policy in this franchise. It'd be great to see Ilsa make a return for M:I6, but given the series' track record, it seems terribly unlikely. Would it have killed them to at least reference these two in some form, especially considering how much effort was spent in M:I3 to establish the importance of Hunt's marriage?
