Most Divisive Movie: Man of Steel

Some people loved it, some people hated hit, but Zack Snyder's Superman reboot certainly got people talking. There is no doubting that the movie is visually spectacular, which is as much as we've come to expect from the director. The Kryptonian prologue brought something new to the franchise, and the climactic city-destroying showdown is an audaciously large-scale finale. However, despite solid performances across the board from the ensemble cast, many characters are woefully underdeveloped with Amy Adams' Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne's Perry While arguably the biggest casualties. Producer Christopher Nolan's fingerprints were all over the movie's more solemn tone, but it suffers from a real dearth of levity and humor. The third act action drags on for too long and suffers from severe CGI overload, and having Superman essentially commit murder is a questionable decision given the character's history. Cramming Batman and Wonder Woman into the sequel seems like a lack of confidence in this new cinematic universe, especially given the fact that the classic Superman mythos was only established in the movie's final scene. Runner-Up: Only God Forgives
Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling's follow-up to the universally-acclaimed Drive was the recipient of reviews that ranged from glowing to vitriolic. Ever since it premiered at Cannes to a mixture of a standing ovation and chorus of boos, the movie has greatly divided opinion. Nobody can deny that the movie is beautifully shot and wonderfully acted (especially by Kristin Scott Thomas in a brilliantly against-type role) but the lack of character development and depiction of extreme violence has seen reception split right down the middle.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
