Despite being directed by Alan Taylor, best known for his work on Game of Thrones, as well as taking the tried-and-tested sequel route of 'darker and grittier', it was surprising to discover that Thor: The Dark World is one of the funniest entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This unheralded sense of humor was best showcased in a brief cameo from Captain America, which caused entire theaters to laugh out loud. At least, they did in the theater I saw it in... While Thor and his scene-stealing brother Loki are in Asgard, the God of Mischief uses his powers to masquerade as the God of Thunder's Avengers colleague. Although the cameo amounts to less than 20 seconds of screentime, it provides yet more connective tissue to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and lets Evans poke fun at his own character, as he strides in an exaggerated fashion declaring that his costume is 'a bit tight' and offering to have a 'rousing discussion about truth, honor and patriotism'. With my sincerest apologies to Stan Lee; this is how you cameo in the MCU; it isn't shoehorned in, and it's totally organic to the story. Runner-Up: Channing Tatum - This Is The End
With a movie as cameo-heavy as This is the End, how best to utilize a cameo from Channing Tatum, one of Hollywood's fastest-rising stars who is... erm... very popular with the opposite sex? Why, put him in a gimp mask and make him Danny McBride's bitch in a group of post-apocalyptic cannibals of course! A fleeting reference to the actor earlier in the movie comes full circle in the third act, and results in one of the biggest laughs in a movie that was already full of them. Fair play to Tatum for embracing the ridiculousness of the cameo, but the look in his eyes when he says 'I love him' really freaks me out.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
