20 Recent Box Office Bombs EVERYONE Saw Coming

19. Return to Silent Hill

2006's Silent Hill film was a modest-at-best success, grossing $100 million on a $50 million budget, while 2012's critically panned sequel Silent Hill: Revelation succeeded only on the strength of its low budget, nabbing $55.9 million against a $20 million price tag.

The recent third film, Return to Silent Hill, meanwhile rocked a similar budget of $23 million albeit in a time where that figure gets filmmakers much less.

Beyond this, the film spent well over a year searching for a distributor after shooting wrapped, and the trailers made it look laughably cheap in places.

Even with the film being based on the mega-popular video game Silent Hill 2, it was tough to have any faith in the film's box office performance whatsoever.

Ultimately Return to Silent Hill tanked in every major market except China, where it's made more than $18 million to date, boosting the worldwide gross to $42.7 million.

Though the film is still a borderline flop, its performance has at least been less disastrous than most were surely expecting.
