Gavin Polone's horror-thriller Psycho Killer was basically just a carousel of red flags from the jump, despite being penned by Se7en writer Andrew Kevin Walker.

For one, the film began development way back in the mid-2000s as a pet project to be directed by Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst (!), though Polone took over as director in 2010 and remained attached to it as his directorial debut for more than a decade before shooting started.

In the meantime the budget was slashed from an original $17 million to less than $10 million, and perhaps the most damning sign of trouble was that Psycho Killer was filmed in the spring of 2023, meaning it spent almost a full three years in post-production limbo awaiting release.

And finally, the kiss of death came with the universally negative reviews, ensuring nobody could be shocked when the scarcely-marketed, low-key release reaped just $1.6 million in its opening U.S. weekend.
