10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed
9. Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2
In what's surely the most egregious recent example of a filmmaker putting their cart before the cinematic horse, Kevin Costner shot the second chapter of his Western epic passion project Horizon: An American Saga before the first part had even premiered.
And so, there was much hand-wringing once Chapter 1 released to mixed reviews while flopping at the box office this past summer, seeming to suggest that there simply wasn't much interest in Costner's undeniably ambitious saga, which he intends to be four parts.
Though Chapter 2 is already in the can and guaranteed to release eventually, it was suspiciously pulled from its originally planned August 16 release date, with New Line Cinema seemingly rethinking its release strategy.
With its box office prospects already cooked, it gets worse - Chapter 2 premiered at the Venice Film Festival back in September to worse reviews than its predecessor, making it extremely likely that it ends up grossing even less than the first.
Even accepting that Chapter 1 performed well on streaming, is that really good enough for a $50 million Western?
Though Costner has already filmed parts of Chapter 3, it wouldn't be remotely surprising if funding - some of which he contributed himself - dried up before he could complete this quartet of movies.
