10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed
8. Mission: Impossible 8
Given the track record of the Christopher McQuarrie-directed Mission: Impossible movies, it's incredibly unlikely that the upcoming eighth film is bad, but its path to profitability is going to be extremely challenging.
To call the spy thriller's production strained is quite the understatement indeed. Mission: Impossible 8 began filming in March 2022, and at the time of writing Tom Cruise is still shooting action sequences for it, more than two-and-a-half years after principal photography started.
Even accepting the interruptions of Hollywood strike action and a damaged submarine, that's a mind-boggling amount of time to be shooting any film, and has reportedly caused its budget to balloon past $300 million.
That price tag puts the blockbuster in a seriously tricky spot, as it needs to gross around $750 million to be considered profitable - a figure far in excess of the underwhelming $570.6 million grossed by predecessor Dead Reckoning Part One.
As such, regardless of how well it's received by critics and those who do bother to go see it, Mission: Impossible 8 seems highly unlikely to deliver the financial return Paramount surely expected when the studio greenlit it.
