20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Might Surprise You
19. Zach Cregger's Resident Evil
It was just a matter of time before a new Resident Evil movie was announced, though few could've ever anticipated that acclaimed Barbarian and Weapons filmmaker Zach Cregger would be its co-writer and director.
After all, what does a filmmaker of Cregger's rep really stand to gain from a video game adaptation after producing two incredibly original and well-received horror films?
But from what we've heard so far, it sure sounds like Cregger is going to do anything but deliver another garden-variety video game movie.
Cregger has flatly stated that his film won't feature any existing characters from the video games but instead focus on an entirely new set of heroes and villains within the same world.
And while some Resident Evil fans are naturally upset that Cregger's film isn't slavishly devoted to the story and characters of the games, considering the strength of his two original films, it's highly likely that he ends up delivering something totally unexpected that still feels firmly within the series' wheelhouse.
You'd be silly to bet against Cregger at this point, even if the man has no interest in being shackled to other people's characters.
