21 Greatest Batman Movie Easter Eggs

6. The Criss-Cross Puzzle Company

Schumacher might have turned the Riddler from a grand scheming strategist and super-intellect into Jim Carry in a catsuit mugging and goofing around, but he did at least prove that he knew something of the character's original story. Yes what emerged on the screen was far removed from it, and Schumacher should probably be further castigated for knowing - and then abusing - the source, but the nod is at least there with the right intentions. Schumacher's Gotham includes a sign for CrissCross Puzzle Company, which of course relates back to the Riddler's chosen method of transmission of his riddles in his first guise in the 1940s. Incidentally the riddles that are included in the film were created by Will Shortz, "puzzlemaster" on National Public Radio and editor of the NY Times crossword puzzle, as a further nod to their origins.
