21 Things Horror Movies Ruined For Every One

3. Masks (Of Nearly Any Kind)

Notable offenders: Halloween (1978), Scream (1996), Trick 'r Treat (2007), The Strangers (2008) If you were to time travel back to 1980 and present somebody with a hockey mask and ask them what's the first thing that comes to their mind, you know the answer you'd probably get? Hockey. Yeah, believe it or not Jason Voorhees fans, there was a time when hockey masks were used strictly for hockey-related purposes. Yeah, this isn't the first time the horror genre has ruined a seemingly harmless mask for us. John Carpenter famously had his future horror icon Michael Myers wear a slightly modified William Shatner mask as he slaughter his victims. And the list goes on, from; Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Donnie Darko, Black Sunday, the ChromeSkull films, The Purge, Phantom of the Paradise, The Rise of Leslie Vernon, Stage Fright and many more.
