Notable offenders: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), House of 1000 Corpses (2003), Vile (2011) This is almost a continuation from our road trip entry but nevertheless it needs to be addressed as well. First, who could ever forget that nutbag from Tobe Hooper's Texas Chain Saw Massacre? When the films future victims pick up a hitchhiker on the side of the road he repays them by pulling out a pocket-knife and cutting himself, for the fun of it. Or how about when Sheri Moon Zombie (Baby Firefly) played the damsel in distress in Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses only to lure a group of unsuspecting teens to her home to meet her murderous family. Picking up hitchhikers has never really been deemed safe but horror films took that fear to another level. On the flip-side, attempting to hitchhike is equally bad for your health in the horror movie universe. Most notably in 1984's Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. We are met with a harmless girl on the side of the road trying to hitch a ride when she is stabbed in the back of the neck by Jason Voorhess while she's trying to enjoy a banana. Yeah, if you have no other means to get to your location other than hitchhiking, maybe you shouldnt be going.
