The Line: "The horror... The horror..." How He Dies: He's hacked to death with a machete, and a large serving of poetic justice. For the double-stuffed verbosity of Marlon Brando's haunting performance as Colonel Kurtz in the seminal war movie, it is a simple pair of words, repeated, that it is remembered more for. In those two words, we get enough ambiguity and poetic suggestions that it seems Kurtz is revisited the horrors he has himself committed: his brutal assassination is the mirror that makes him see himself clearly, and as he dies, it is only right that they are the last things on his mind.
