23. The End Of The Tour (2015)
In a just world, Jason Segel would have been showered in awards for his portrayal of acclaimed author David Foster Wallace in The End of the Tour, which follows the writer as he's interviewed over five days by an adoring journalist (Jesse Eisenberg).
At once a wryly amusing road movie about two men who form an unlikely friendship and a mesmerising assessment of art, memory and the power of words, The End of the Tour is both moving in its confessions and poetic in its fiery script and exemplary performances.
It's tough to watch the film without recalling how Wallace's life ended, but it's still touching to see how beautifully it honours him and his singular talents, whilst also reminding audiences that a bit of human contact goes a long way.
