25 Astonishingly Dumb 21st Century Film Oscar Wins

16. 2007: Jennifer Hudson wins Best Supporting Actress

Catherine Zeta-Jones Chicago 2002
Paramount

Beat: Adrianna Barrazza (Babel), Cate Blanchett (Notes on a Scandal), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel).

Should've Won: Anyone else.

This is one hell of a bizarre win, not because Jennifer Hudson's turn in the excellent Dreamgirls was a bad performance at all, but because it wasn't really acting.

Most of the performance is singing and of course, Jennifer Hudson is an absolutely amazing singer but the Oscars are supposed to give out awards for acting, not singing! Like, there are Grammys for that!

Furthermore, the speaking parts of the performance are OK, but nothing special. Jennifer Hudson, as she proved in the recent Aretha Franklin biopic Respect, is capable of giving a very strong dramatic performance but she didn't necessarily do that here and she really didn't deserve this Oscar at all.

Basically, anyone else winning would've been preferable, especially Cate Blanchett for her fantastic performance in Notes on a Scandal.
