7. David Lynch Was Sought Out To Direct Return Of The Jedi
This is a well-known piece of trivia but still one difficult to fathom. Imagine the meeting when this was proposed and the look on Lynchs face when he thought it over. Lynch may have made the elegant and relatively accessible The Elephant Man, but Eraserhead was still a thing that existed by then, which George Lucas was inexplicably a fan of. The whole Star Wars canon wouldve been a whole lot different if he had said yes. Maybe there wouldve been a few more Lynch movies with all the royalty money trickling in over the years. Who knows. Lynch turned it down because he felt it was more Lucas vision than his own. He instead went on to direct Dune and then tried to forget about that as soon as possible.
6. Watch That Tree!
Besides the innovations in special effects and sound design and the luxurious sets, makeup and costumes, the films also have their fair share of impressive technique in in the practical field. The POV shots of the speeder bike sequence were achieved by having a camera operator record at one frame per second and simply walk through the forest to give the impression that they were going at whip speed.
