Sci-fi films are known for their frequent use of improvised props from everyday products. Even in a big budget movie like Star Wars, theyre no different. You can also see three Hewlett-Packard Inkjet cartridges among the props in the background during the scene where the group leaves Tatooine. Presumably they spent all the money on other things.
