Most Recent Film: Noah (2013) Next Film: N/A Best Film: Requiem For A Dream (2000) As a director, Darren Aronofsky is a hard one to pin down. There are times when his films seem pretentious, over-reaching and faux-arty, and yet you can feel the energy and the passion in every frame across the span of his entire filmography. It's hard to ignore a director like that; what's the point unless they're giving it their all? Why pay to see less? And so there was a minor classic in his debut flick Pi, and an arguable masterpiece in Requiem For A Dream in 2000. The Fountain was a beautiful mess - Aronofsky's most conflicting and ponderous film. Naturally, it's his favourite. The Wrestler and Black Swan were two of the best films of their release years. And then came Noah in 2013, which - as half-blockbuster, half-indie dreamscape - can only be labelled as "very, very strange." If there was a common link connecting Aronofsky's films, Noah came along and shattered any preconceived notions we had. But his latest remains a hugely underrated film, and from its success - and non-success - it will be exciting to see what Aronofsky conjures up next.
