12. Sid And Nancy

The Drugs: Heroin, alcohol If any one person defined the British punk scene which emerged in the mid-70s then that person is Sid Vicious, bassist for The Sex Pistols, a band which raged against the establishment and polite society like few others. And if any actor of that generation could pull off playing Vicious in a biopic it was Gary Oldman - and he didn't disappoint. Alex Cox's Sid and Nancy charts the downfall of Sid Vicious and the destructive relationship he experienced with Nancy Spungen (played by Chloe Webb), as an increasing dependence on heroin - coupled with a raucous, nihilistic lifestyle - tears the couple apart. Raw and dirty like the music of the times, Sid and Nancy goes a few steps further than Stone's The Doors in its depiction of a legendary rock star spiraling out of control.
