11. The Handcuffs Scene - Gerald's Game

Netflix's fantastic adaptation of Stephen King's novel has already cemented itself in infamy thanks to an utterly revolting third-act sequence where protagonist Jessie (Carla Gugino), who is trapped handcuffed to her bed, takes a desperate, disgusting measure in order to free herself.

Jessie uses a smashed glass to cut her wrist, at which point she's able to manoeuvre her right hand out of the cuffs, all while the skin on said hand peels away (the medical term is "degloving", apparently).

The fantastically realistic gore effects, director Mike Flanagan's unflinching direction and Gugino's superb performance add up to make this one of the year's most brilliantly stomach-churning scenes.
