25 Incredibly Well-Made Horror Films Directed By Women

5. Danielle Harris - Among Friends (2012)

The terrorised-at-a-party horror genre where a group of people get abused one by one by a manic host has become exceedingly popular in the last few years. Usually, these poor people are put through the ringer for either revenge, money or in the case of Among Friends, the dark secrets a group of friends have kept from each other throughout the years. Among Friends marks the directorial debut of veteran scream queen Danielle Harris (Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers, Hatchet II, See No Evil 2, etc) and at its center is a film about how crappy friends can be to each other without them noticing. The film is essentially filled with partying and violent retribution (which includes partial scalping and fingers getting chopped off). Any hesitations one might have as a fan and viewer is quickly allayed by Harris€™ surprising skill behind the camera. The movie actually works incredibly well. The setup is interesting, the performances strong, and Harris does a brilliant job as director with balancing the film€™s tricky mix of humour and horror. You€™ll be laughing one moment, squealing the next, and loving every minute of it.
