25 Greatest Films Of The Last 25 Years

22. Good Will Hunting (1997)

good will hunting 4 Good Will Hunting has certainly made its way into the public vernacular with the basic premise being lampooned just as much as it is praised. The story of the film is extremely well told by Affleck and Damon while Gus Van Sant adds an extra dimension of emotional pathos to the film through his steady direction of the characters. The script is one of the best of the decade and it skyrocketed Affleck and Damon to fame after they picked up an Oscar for it. What makes the film worthy to be on this list is the reality that the story carries. The film is basically about a bunch of friends who like to hang out, go to bars and drink but it takes what could have been a stupid premise and gives it such a human quality that you feel as though you know the characters by the time the movie is over.

21. The Dark Knight (2008)

the dark knight senator The best comic book/superhero movie ever made. Do I really even need to tell you why The Dark Knight belongs on this list? I know I don't but I will anyway because I love writing about amazing movies. The Dark Knight propelled superhero films into a place they had never been before and have never returned to since. Christopher Nolan brought such a genius eye for style and character to his movie while Ledger pulled no punches in depicting the most vicious, and amazing, villain in the history of the comic book film. The Joker may be the highlight of the film but what is easily a close second is the perfectly crafted narrative drive that is displayed throughout. The screenplay never lets up on the action or suspense but it's all handled so intelligently and carefully that The Dark Knight gets more and more gripping the longer it goes on.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
