The Ending: After Celine (Julie Delpy) plays a song for Jesse (Ethan Hawke), Jesse puts on the Nina Simone song Just in Time, which she dances to. She then turns to Jesse and says, "Baby... you are gonna miss that plane", to which Jesse retorts, "I know", as the film fades to black. Why It's Awesome: Because it's steeped in a perfect amount of ambiguity, indicating that Jesse and Celine will be making a go of it after falling in love all over again, but the audience has no idea if it will last, at least until 2013's Before Midnight came out. Had the series concluded with Sunset, it would have been an extremely poetic and dignified way for it to bow out. That Midnight managed to be another masterful entry in the series is no small miracle, even if Sunset has the most memorable ending of the trilogy.
