The Ending: Adam (Leigh Whannell) beats Zep (Michael Emerson) to death, only to find out that he was simply another pawn in the game, as evidenced by a tape recorder Adam finds in Zepp's possession. Just then, it turns out that the dead man in the middle of the room isn't dead at all, but the real Jigsaw, who is also John Kramer (Tobin Bell), the cancer patient briefly seen earlier in the film. His wounds are fake, and he tells Adam that the key to his chain was flushed down the bathtub when he woke up. Adam tries to shoot him, but is shocked by Jigsaw's buzzer, and at that moment, Jigsaw tells Adam "Game over" as he closes the giant bathroom door, dooming Adam to a grim, lonely death. Why It's Awesome: Because regardless of what anyone says, there's no way you saw this plot twist coming. Sure, it's totally ridiculous, but its sheer "Holy s***!" impact alone makes it worth a place on this list, making a second viewing of the film absolutely vital so you can piece everything together again with a fresh perspective. Plus, the twist ending led to a horror franchise which, quality-wise, certainly stands tall with the decidedly more inconsistent Friday the 13th, Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street series.
