25 Harry Potter Deaths Ranked By How Viciously They Ripped Your Heart Out

13. Frank Bryce

It's a testament to JK Rowling's writing that we can be genuinely rattled by the death of a character introduced only pages before and Frank Bryce is a sad character even before his sudden death. A World War II veteran with a strongly hinted at case of PTSD, Frank was accused of murdering the Riddle family. As the events of the Goblet of Fire take place, he's an old man, still tottering around and taking care of the gardening, when he has the misfortune of running into Lord Voldemort and Wormtail. Now, Muggles get themselves killed by Voldemort and his followers all the time - it's sort of their MO - but Frank endears himself to the audience right away, by doing something that few wizards would dare: standing his ground against Voldemort. Sure, he was clearly not aware of exactly what Voldy was capable of, but how many seventy seven year olds do you know who would square off against a home invader? It's hard not to admire his bold, plucky spirit, even if the movie didn't necessarily do his character justice.
