Tobe Hooper's outstanding, low-budget slasher flick is an appropriately scuzzy, grimy outing that follows a group of youngsters as they find themselves being picked off by the fat, chainsaw-toting maniac known as Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen), who either wants to hang them on a meathook or peel their skin from their bones (or both). Best Moment: The nail-biting escape finale, as Marilyn Burns dives into the back of a pickup truck, while Leatherface wildly swings his chainsaw around, before the movie cuts to black. Sequels: Three largely forgettable sequels followed, which nevertheless included early parts for the likes of Viggo Mortensen, Renee Wellweger and Matthew McConaughey. The series was rebooted in 2003, followed by 2006's prequel, and another reboot in 2013, none of which were worth bothering with.
