25 Incredible Star Wars Concept Art Designs You Need To See

22. Mechanical Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren could have looked much different, and much scarier than the dashing young Ben Solo behind the slick mask we got.

This early piece of concept art for The Force Awakens shows off a more mechanical Kylo Ren, seemingly a cyborg whose body has been meshed with machinery, much like his grandfather before him.

Fans of the Knights Of The Old Republic video game series in particular praised this version of Kylo for his similarities to fan-favourite villain Darth Revan, who was all but excised from the new Star Wars Canon after Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2013.

As cool as this design looked, in a film which was already lauded for sticking too closely to the plot of A New Hope, providing a near carbon-copy of Vader, the most famous villain of cinematic history.

In the end, Kylo Ren's removable mask -- which added a layer of meta-commentary to the franchise -- was a more original concept, helping to demonstrate the conflict within Ben.
