This iconic Ralph McQuarrie concept art from the pre-production of the original Star Wars shows an early version of Luke Skywalker, Deak Starkiller, as he encounters Vader for the first time.

The lightsabers have yet to have fully developed into their now iconic design, and Deak/Luke seems to be wearing special equipment to help him breathe in space.

McQuarrie's original Vader design was revisited during the creation of Star Wars Rebels, informing the big baddie's ominous presence and angular design used in the cartoon.
