Arguably one of the most famous scenes in the first season of The Wire occurs in the fourth episode Old Cases, in which Bunk (Wendell Pierce) and McNulty (Dominic West) investigate a crime scene following the murder of Diedre Kresson. As the two cops wander around the room, examining pieces of evidence and harrowing remnants of the crime, they communicate primarily through the use of one spectacularly profane four-letter word. Repeatedly. Those that have seen the sequence in question do not need it restated here. And the number of times that the word is uttered (in some form or other) in this scene? Thirty-seven.
