Pierce Brosnan starred in a show called Remington Steele during the 1980s when he was offered the role of James Bond for the film, The Living Daylights. The show was about to be cancelled, so he saw it as a perfect opportunity to boost his career.

However, he got so much attention as “the next James Bond”, the ratings of Remington Steele skyrocketed. As a result, the series was picked up for another season and he was contracted to appear in it, which prevented him from taking the role of Bond. Sadly, the show was cancelled shortly after and the role of Bond went to Timothy Dalton.

Weirdly, Dalton had the opportunity to play Bond... twice! When Sean Connery refused to return for On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Dalton was offered the role. Since he was only 22, Dalton was worried he was too young to play Bond and so, he declined.

Due to Roger Moore's deteoriating health, Dalton was offered the role again in 1980 but he rejected it because he believed the series had become too goofy.

Ironically, when he finally accepted the role, his films were criticised for being too dark and gritty.
