25 Mind-Blowing James Bond Facts You Need To Know
11. Die Another Day References Every Single Bond Film
Fans regularly complain that films like Star Wars rely too much on fan-service. Sadly, Die Another Day didn't get the memo. To celebrate the franchise's 40 year anniversary, Die Another Day references the previous 19 movies in one way or another.
A few props from previous films appear in Q's laboratory like the jetpack from Thunderball, the crocodile submarine from Octopussy, and the knife shoe from From Russia With Love.
When Halle Berry's character, Jinx, exits the water, it is an homage to Honey Rider's scene in Dr. No when Bond greets her at the beach. The laser sequence is an unsubtle nod to Goldfinger.
Gustav Graves debuts by landing in an arena with a Union Jack parachute. Bond debuts the same way in The Spy Who Loved Me.
Some of the references are much more subtle. Miranda Frost confronts Bond by saying, “I know all about you, 007. It’s sex for dinner and death for breakfast.” Death for Breakfast is the title of Chapter 11 in the novel, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
Considering Die Another Day is seen as the worst film in the series, the creators probably should have focused on the story rather than relying on fan-service.
