Hype: Between bulking for Batman and trying (and apparently failing) to make Accountancy cool again, Ben Affleck has also been turning his hand to being a gangster, as guided by Dennis Lehane's novel.

There are a number of big selling points here, but there's no bigger than the fact that Affleck himself is directing . That means assured quality on top of a very compelling story that takes a similar trajectory to both the Godfather and Goodfellas. The trailer has already promised style, attitude and violence, and at this stage it's just the icing on what is already a very exciting cake.

It will open wide in January 2017 (which is always a worrying slot), but see it when it's on limited release at the tale end of the year instead of waiting.
