25 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Of Winter 2016 - Ranked
2. Star Wars: Rogue One
Release Date: December 16th
Billed As: A Star Wars story. With more war. And probably a massive downer ending.
Hype: There was a time there when reshoots were the biggest issue with Rogue One: but now that the final trailer is out, Disney have annoyingly released way too much material for a film whose ending is already pre-determined. For that reason alone, this is no longer the most hotly anticipated film left to come this year.
Set after the end of the Prequels and before the Death Star is completely in full working order, the film will clearly trade on nostalgia, but with a promised difference in tone that should set it apart from the mainline Star Wars movies. It will be heavy going, but as the trailers have very unsubtly foreshadowed, there will be lots of HOPE.
Gareth Edwards is a very talented director (assuming he's being allowed to make his own movie) and the cast is remarkably talented. And let's be honest here, it's a Star Wars film, so it's guaranteed to be lucrative.
