Release Date: December 25th
Billed As: Denzel Washington's third directorial outing, adapting August Wilson's exceptional play.
Hype: It doesn't sound a great deal like the most festive of films, but Washington's latest directorial debut has a lot going for it. It is adapted from an award-winning play (having won both a Tony and a Pulitzer) and it bears all the intriguing markers of an American kitchen sink drama.
Washington is a spell-binding presence on screen whether he's leading the Magnificent Seven into battle or sitting on a porch bemoaning racial discrimination, so he's worth the cover price alone. And seeing him opposite the equally great Viola Davis in a heavily politically pertinent movie about racial tension is a massive selling point.
