4. The Truth About The Planet - The Planet of the Apes (1968)
Without a question, the finale of Planet of the Apes is a great mind-bending moment in sci-fi history. It altered the whole concept of the film, making us delve into the deeper meanings. It helped define what a twist was in film. Even the title leads us to think its on a planet separate from Earth. Making us go back on everything we assumed about the world of the film is a great mind-bender. And the visual aspect of it really drove the terror home. Taylor (Charlton Heston) wasnt finding ape history books documenting the ape revolution and their rise to power. No. He sees a major symbol of his home country strewn to bits and his whole world comes crashing around him. In that one instance, he is forced to face the downfall of not just his country but his species. Its a lot to comprehend in one shot and would send any man to his knees.
