3. Maria's Dance Of Death - Metropolis (1927)
The moment: Our lovely heroine is kidnapped and has her image replicated on an evil gold-plated robot who then performs a devil-worshiping dance that beacons the apocalypse. Not only do we see the sexy robot transform into flesh and blood before our very eyes, but we see statues spring to life, men and woman revolt in the streets, and the devil reach out of his fiery tomb. Many motifs from earlier in the film are called back to create this culmination of evil and corruption. Did I mention this film was made in 1927? Even by todays standards this scene is visually compelling and a cinematic wonder. Even a jaded tech-fan of today can get lost in the moment. And its just one of many moments from the film that was way ahead of its time. Theres a reason this 87 year-old film is featured prominently in Netflixs sci-fi section.
