25 Movie Sequels That Will Kick Ass In 2018

When people are talking about their favourite movie musicals, Disney films tend to be excluded by some unspoken rule that they are a thing entirely of their own. That does a disservice to the joyful entertainment that is Mary Poppins, which straddled the line between animation and musical and which is still one of Disney's most heart-warming releases.

And now, even though not many people would have asked for it (despite the book series running to a fairly high number), a belated sequel is on its way at Christmas, with its crosshairs squarely aimed at recapturing the same kind of pleasure.

In place of Julie Andrews is Emily Blunt and around her is an exceptional cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda (who is also writing new songs wonderfully), Ben Whishaw, Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Colin Firth and of course, Dick Van Dyke.

This time the story kicks off with the Banks children (all grown up) experiencing a tragedy that brings Poppins back, so we can probably expect a blend of pathos and good-old fashioned sugar to make the medicine go down.
