It's hard to truly grasp exactly how much of a gamble Boyhood must have been for everyone involved, but those who trusted Richard Linklater's vision evidently made the right choice.

Ellar Coltrane may be the focus of the narrative, but the heart of the movie belongs to single mother Patricia Arquette, whose struggles to navigate love and divorce represents the ups and downs of an entire generation. The shot chosen above is a perfect depiction of both childhood innocence and a mothers love, key themes explored throughout the film.
