Coming of age stories can shock or offend at times, but few are as uncompromisingly nasty as the German movie Wetlands, which follows 18-year old Helen as she deliberately provokes others for the sake of controversy.

The shot chosen above is generally typical of the movies tone and so clearly, director David Wnendt's gross out film is not for everyone. However, at its heart, Wetlands is actually a sincere exploration of adolescence and the pain children feel when their parents are no longer together.
