25 Shocking CGI Movie Moments That Left You Speechless
9. Doctor Strange Opens His Eye - Doctor Strange
It seems only fair, after criticising the effects of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, to appreciate just how good in this particular department the character's first solo outing was back in 2016.
As the titular character delved into the world of the mystic arts, something that was completely new to the MCU, Scott Derrickson brought his film to the screen with a flair and a style unlike anything else the wider MCU franchise had ever seen. It set itself apart with its psychedelic aesthetic, showcased best by one scene between The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) and Stephen Strange.
Strange was, understandably, sceptical of the world The Ancient One was telling him of, so she sent him on a trip. He went through time and space, his fingers grew hands and fingers of their own, he flew through multiple dimensions, and even got a glimpse of Dormammu. This, after the fight in the mirror dimension at the beginning of the film that echoed Inception, was a show-stealer.
Arguably, this goes some way towards the disappointment of the sequel's effects, as there was an expectation set in 2016, and it was damn high.
