25 Shocking CGI Movie Moments That Left You Speechless
10. Axl's Floating Head - Thor: Love & Thunder
Even taking into account Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, 2022 may have been the worst year for the MCU on the big screen ever. This had nothing to do with Ryan Coogler's Black Panther sequel, though, and everything to do with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and even more so, Thor: Love and Thunder.
The fourth Thor film was one of the biggest disappointments the franchise has ever seen, from wasting a phenomenal actor, character, and potential plot line with Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher, to the humour venturing into the realms of so bad it almost became a parody itself, and a common theme in the post-Endgame MCU: shocking CGI.
The biggest culprit in Taika Waititi's second effort with the God of Thunder was Heimdall's son, Axl (Kieron L. Dyer). The boy who renamed himself after Axl Rose - one of the many jokes that just did not land - sent a vision of himself to Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and in a similar fashion to Stephen Strange's third eye, it felt as though a much better job could have been done relatively easily.
Axl's head floated in front of Thor, and it almost looked as though the effects work wasn't finished. Of course, time constraints on CGI artists have been widely spoken about in recent years, but it's impossible to ignore the final product when it looks like this. It was even updated for the film's Disney+ release, but even then, it was far from up to scratch.
