25 Things Wrong With Marvel Phase Two So Far

10. Massively Overblown Final Battles

Action-packed, large-scale battles with fantastic special effects can be great - at least when the scenario calls for it. The Avengers saw an alien invasion of Earth getting repelled by a group of superheroes - that situation warranted a large-scale battle with explosions and mass destruction - but does that kind of thing really need to happen in every movie? Without fail, every Marvel Cinematic Universe phase two movie has resulted in a large-scale battle happening at the end. Iron Man 3 saw Tony Stark and his Iron army taking on Aldrich Killian and his band of Extremis soldiers. Thor: The Dark World saw Thor taking on Malekith and the Dark Elves on Earth, after Malekith's giant ship had destroyed a big patch of land in London, after having previously teamed-up with Loki to take on Malekith and Kurse across several realms. Guardians of the Galaxy saw the titular Guardians, the Nova Corps and the Ravagers taking on Ronan and his Sakaaran henchmen in the skies of Xandar - and all of that is fine. Those movies warranted large scale battles. Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Not so much. The battle between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes was a very personal one, but Marvel had to upscale it to include a separate fight between Sam Wilson and Brock Rumlow, as well as by adding the fall of several S.H.I.E.L.D./HYDRA Helicarriers in to the mix for good measure. Seriously, Marvel, not every final battle has to cause mass destruction.
