25 Things Wrong With Marvel Phase Two So Far

21. Underutilising Certain Characters

Partially as a result of one or both of the last two points, some characters in phase two have ended up being under-utilised. Take Darcy Lewis, for example - she's great. She is obviously very funny, thanks to a charming portrayal by the wonderful Kat Dennings, but she seems wasted and misused. Her humour is often misplaced - when it should be limited to times when it's appropriate - and her scientific know-how (which is, after all, why she's involved with the characters that ensure she's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the first place) is barely touched upon. And then you look at characters like the aforementioned Batroc. This guy is a major player in the comics as far as Captain America villains go - and yet he was limited to an early movie ass-kicking (in which his fighting was reminiscent of an attempt to get Cap in to a dance-off). If Marvel want to use characters from the comics, use characters from the comics. Don't just give an actor a character's name and have them appear for five minutes - it's a complete waste. More to the point - where the hell is Hawkeye? In both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and indeed the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series, he was completely absent. This is madness, given that he's one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most prominent agents.
