Pulp Fiction's journey towards pop-culture immortality began when it premiered at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival almost five months before its stateside theatrical release.

A midnight screening immediately kickstarted huge buzz about the film, which went on to win Cannes' most prestigious prize, the Palme d'Or.

When Tarantino went to the stage to accept the award, however, he was screamed at by a heckler, who unleashed a tirade of expletives in French, calling the film "f**king s**t."

Tarantino cooly defused the situation, however, by cackling and showing her a half-joking middle finger, possibly making him the only Palme d'Or winner in history to flip the bird mid-speech.
