25 Things You Didn't Know About Bram Stoker's Dracula

15. Sumptuous Costume Design

Bram Stoker's Dracula
Columbia Pictures

In a production like Dracula, the suspension of disbelief is everything. To realise the Victorian setting and lavish Gothic atmosphere, Japanese costume designer Eiko Ishioka (who worked on the equally lavish The Cell) would create some of the most memorable suits, dresses and robes seen on film.

Ishioka (who received a Grammy for her Miles Davis album cover) snagged the Oscar for costume design, with her stunning reproduction Victorian dresses, frock coats and all manner of weird and wonderful hats, boots and gothic apparel required to realise the style and tone of the novel.
