25 Things You Didn't Know About Ghostbusters

9. Slimer's Original Name Was 'Onion Head'

By the time The Real Ghostbusters was a staple of children's television, Slimer was a beloved fan favourite, as happy go lucky as he was icky and slimy. But this was never the intention when the ghoul appeared in Ghostbusters, in fact the character was quite a bit different.

The biggest difference of course was the name. At no point during the movie is Slimer ever referred to by name, but instead is described as an "ugly little spud" by Ray. In the original scripts, the ghost was nicknamed The Green Ghost, and then Onionhead, on account of the horrible stench it gave off whenever it appeared.

According to Ghostbuster lore, Onionhead originally appeared as more of a yellow mist than the grotesquely altered human form we've come to know and love. As the film became more comedic, so did Slimer’s appearance, a sure way to keep younger audience members happy.
