25 Things You Didn't Know About Ghostbusters
10. A Lot Of This "New York Movie" Wasn't Actually Filmed In New York
Despite being considered a New York movie, only three weeks of Ghostbusters filming took place in The Big Apple. The remainder of the action was filmed elsewhere, usually in a backlot studio.
Perhaps the most iconic location in Ghostbusters is that of their official HQ, which can still be found today at the Hook and Ladder #8 Firehouse in the Tribeca section of New York. However, this was only used for the exterior shots, as the interior was actually filmed in Los Angeles.
Other scenes, including the roof top finale, were filmed on Stage 16 at Columbia Pictures, while some interior shots of the New York public library were again filmed in LA. Even Slimer never made it to New York, appearing in scenes filmed inside LA’s Millennium Biltmore Hotel and not the Sedgewick as claimed.
